“the other year” is an artist’s book realized as a publication through a collaboration between the artist and Datz Press. Comprising pressed plants collected along the artist’s walks and presented as folded posters, the book was published alongside “The Wind Passes Through the Flower Garden All Night,” an essay collection containing her daily notes and observations. The plants included in these two books are those the artist encountered with her eyes and gathered by hand over the course of a year. For the artist, recording her walks is both a mourning for what is slowly disappearing and a quiet greeting to the small lives that remain beside us. These delicate whispers, gathered through the changing seasons, invite us into the embrace of the natural world.

“the other year” consists of sixteen folded sheets printed with pressed plants on hanji, accompanied by the artist’s notes. As the layers of paper, softly gathered like fallen snow, unfold, they reveal the passage of lives we might otherwise have passed by without noticing. The book is like a gift from the earth, tenderly wrapped in cloth and placed into our hands.
